Invitation to Green Householders from Green Homes Sheffield

There is a call out from Green Homes Sheffield to householders with relevant experience in making their homes more energy efficient and comfortable. We encourage Transition minded-people to help with this initiative.

This doc gives more info about opening your home as a green householder:
Invitation to Hosts – Green Homes Sheffield

The project is just getting set up, so for the moment the call is for green householders, whilst later on there’ll be opportunities to explore what these green householders have found useful in terms of insulation, efficient heating, renewables and other key aspects of the green homes journey.

Warmth and good cheer for the new year

Transition Sheffield wishes you warmth and good cheer at the turning of the year…

The last Transition Hub meeting wasn’t particularly productive as no new faces came
forward to bring us new energy, but we’re excited to report that Transition Sheffield will be helping with a new project in the spring called Green Homes Sheffield.

Green Homes Sheffield will be led by Jenny Patient and host of other great organisations will be involved:

  • Regather
  • Green Triangle community groupsnowflakes
  • South Yorkshire Energy Centre at Heeley City Farm
  • Sheffield Renewables
  • Energy Saving Co-op
  • Sheffield City Council Sustainable Development group
  • Nick Parsons Sustainable Building
  • EnergyJump Ltd
  • Sheffield Hallam University ‘House Warming’ Knowledge Exchange Project
  • Sheffield Students’ Union ‘Green Impact Student Homes’ project
  • Fireside Housing Co-operative

The idea of the project is to encourage householders to tackle energy issues in their homes by letting them visit other homes where energy efficient or sustainable features have already been incorporated, and also put them in touch with contractors who’d be happy to help with similar work.
A key part of the project will be setting up a number of Green Open Homes events in March-May 2014. If you think your home could be eligible for involvement, or you’d like to help, then watch out for calls for further participation. We’ll also organise a Cafe event on this theme in the spring.

So we wish you warm well-insulated homes, low fuel bills, and friendly supportive communities, and hope to see you in the new year.

Wednesday 6 November: Refreshing the Sheffield Food Strategy Workshop/Consultation

food strategy

There have been many changes in Sheffield since Sheffield produced its first Food Plan in 2011.  Some changes have been positive, for example the continuing success of the Food Festival, action to improve School Food and the soon to be opened new Market on the Moor. Unfortunately there have also been cuts in welfare and the appearance of Food Banks in the city. We feel the time is right for a refresh of the Food Plan – (now draft Food Strategy) for Sheffield.
This event will be in the morning of the 6 Nov at City Hall. Please contact Jill Lancaster (Jill.Lancaster@sheffield.gcsx.gov.uk/0114 205 7469) for further information about this event or if you wish to be part of a virtual network of people who have an interest in this area.

An evening talk and a morning session led by the influential economist Arthur Edwards.
