emailHope you’ve had a good summer!

September is looking pretty packed with an array of local events that we couldn’t resist telling you about, and our next Transition Cafe event will be in October.

Admission free, but please register at http://bioenergydialogueuon.eventbrite.com
Bioenergy could reduce the amount of fossil fuels we burn, reduce climate change, and contribute a sustainable energy solution . But bioenergy also raises concerns about food prices, biodiversity, and the economy? What will the sustainable lifestyle of 2030 look like?
Join the Cafe Scientific for an interactive discussion about the future of bioenergy. The event is a chance for you to discuss your concerns, hopes and expectations for bioenergy and your views will be collected and considered to inform future strategy in bioenergy.

Weds 11 September: Wild Food Walk at Holly Hagg

You are all very welcome to a Wild Food, at 6pm, with Ann Frazer from Chesterfield Transition group will be guiding us around the wilder edges of the field showing us a surprising number of things we can eat. There will be plenty of blackberries so bring a bag or tub with you. There is a charge of £2 each towards Ann’s petrol and Holly Hagg’s tree planting fund (children free.) Holly Hagg is in its second year of development as a community growing space with a mixture of native and food growing trees, vegetable beds, meadows and wildlife ponds. We use organic and Permaculture principles and aim to balance a vibrant natural habitat with our need to grow food sustainably. NB. There are two very large holes excavated to form new ponds so children will need to be supervised around these areas.

Directions: From the A57 Manchester Road, just after Crosspool turn right into Stephen Hill, opposite the church and pub. Half a mile down the hill, passing Clough Fields on the right, turn left into Long Lane at the end of the allotments. From the Hillsborough direction come along Bole Hill Road or up Hagg Hill and turn right. Holly Hagg is the field on the right past Hagg Hill so continue until you can turn right into Long Lane. The field gate is half way down on the right and there is plenty of parking on the lane. The nearest postcode is S10 5PY but that takes you to the equestrian centre so do not turn into Clough Fields. See map: https://www.facebook.com/HollyHagg/page_map

Sat 28 September: Repair Cafe at Heeley City Farm

10am – 4pm, Heeley City Farm, Richards Road, Sheffield S2 3DT
The repair cafe is a place for people who can mend stuff to bring their tools and get together with people with broken stuff, and share skills and get stuff mended over a cuppa. Bring small electrical appliances, toys, shoes, clothes, pots, kitchen equipment, computers, bikes, audio equipment, furniture, and we’ll see if we can help you mend it. And if you know anyone who is handy with repairing skills, see if they’d like to help out for an hour or two.
Contact details and direction at: http://www.repairsheffield.org/

And finally: We’ve finally switched over to our new website – should be easier to edit and update. Let us have any comments on what you’d like to see there.

Right then, best leave it at that for now, so you’ve a bit of time left for getting out into the park…
