Transition Cafe: Community and Complementary Currencies

Thursday 17 October: Fusion Cafe, 7.30-10pm

Have you heard of Timebanking, LETS, and the Bristol Pound?

Community and complementary currencies can be found all round the world and are gaining popularity as conventional economies become shakier.

These are local community-based mutual aid networks in which people exchange all kinds of goods and services with one another, without the need for money. They strengthen a sense of community spirit and allow individuals to discover, develop and value their own abilities. They are a great way for people to help others in their community and be rewarded for it.

Come and hear about how this is working in Sheffield, right now, near you!   We’ll hear from the long-established Sheffield LETS scheme and from St Mary’s Timebuilders, which started in 2012, and may have time to describe alternative currencies such as the Bristol Pound as well.  And of course, we’ll discuss together whether to encourage these approaches more strongly across Sheffield.

Fusion Cafe is in a central location on Arundel St, S1 2NS – see directions. The event is free, but donations to cover the cost of the venue will be appreciated, and tea, coffee and light snacks will be available for purchase.

Transition Cafe events are a great opportunity for linking up with like-minded individuals who care about sustainability and communities. We hope you can join us.
